Come on y’all, let’s Dance!
Another exciting exhibit has just arrived at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The new show, Dance!, will feature over 90 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and costumes by artist like John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, and Andy Warhol. The works of Harlem Renaissance art and dance pioneers like Isamu Noguchi will also be displayed. The exhibition will spotlight art from a diverse selection of dance styles from America’s expansive history including the sacred dances of indigenous North Americans and Spanish flamencos. As a former dancer, this is thrilling news. I’ve always enjoyed the exploration of dance outside of the European stylings of ballet. I can’t wait to check this out!
