This week, we spotlight the art of Sanjay Patel, a supervising animator and storyboard artist at Pixar.
Born in the UK, and raised in Southern California, Patel spent his life developing his craft as an illustrator. His animation work includes films such as Monsters Inc, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2 and 3, and The Incredibles. His published books include The Little Book of Hindu Deities and Ganesha’s Sweet Tooth.
His style is largely two-dimensional, highly illustrative, and very colorful. Much of his work is based around his identity as an Indian and particularly draws inspiration from Hinduism.
Patel’s Pixar short film, Sanjay’s Super Team, based on his own childhood, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short.
